COME LEARN WITH US!

The Mini Nurse Academy is a groundbreaking program designed to introduce nursing to Black and Brown children, showcasing the importance of diversity in healthcare from an early age. By highlighting Black nurses as leaders and educators, the academy inspires students to envision a future for themselves in nursing.

The Mini Nurse Academy is an age-appropriate holistic learning program that features many topics concerning healthcare and wellness. The program covers information on selected health conditions, the history of nursing and the United States healthcare system, how racism has impacted healthcare for underserved communities,  hands-on skills lab activities, and the research process. The Academy features exciting class discussions and guest presentations all designed to provide an enriching educational experience.

For 50 years, NBNA has been the voice for Black nurses and diverse populations with the vision to make a difference in creating healthy people and communities. The Mini Nurse Academy celebrates equity and inclusion for all students and seeks to transform the nursing workforce into an inclusive profession where diversity is embraced.  The Mini Nurse Academy strives to help its students to reach their full potential and become future leaders in the nursing workforce.

The primary goal of The Mini Nurse Academy is to expand and transform the nursing workforce in the areas of racial, ethnic, and gender diversity.

Education is directly correlated to secure employment, housing opportunities, and healthy lifestyle behaviors. Permanent placement of mini nurse academies in underserved school districts increases workforce diversity in nursing and improves economic growth for racial and ethnic minorities overall.

After completion of academy modules, students are followed to high school and college graduation. During the follow-up period, academy students and their caregivers participate with local NBNA chapters in community service activities, academic programs, and mentoring.
