Nurturely, “an Oregon nonprofit focused on equity in perinatal wellness. We are planning an upcoming Racism in Perinatal & Pediatric Health virtual workshop series for Oregon health professionals (poster attached). I would love to collaborate with you on this as we finalize plans for the series to ensure that this content is aligned with your Oregon-based work in the nursing sector. I'd also be happy to offer your team a free virtual exhibitor spot if you're interested in connecting with the 100+ Oregon perinatal health professionals.Nurturely has recently launched our Milk Magic Educators Program, a toolkit, training program, and community designed to increase representation and culturally-matched lactation care in the perinatal health arena. For any nurses who are in Labor & Delivery or Mom & Baby positions, I would love to collaborate on this as we finalize plans for launching this to Oregon hospitals (CNE will be available with this program)”
Bill Racism as a Public Health Crisis
“Hello friends and colleagues,
Racism is pervasive and touches every sector. No institution or system that impacts the social determinants of health is exempt from this oppressive history and current-day reality. Over the past several months Oregon Public Health Association (OPHA) has convened a task force of mostly Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) led organizations and community leaders to develop a legislative concept (LC) to declare racism as a public health crisis.
This legislative concept begins the work of acknowledging Oregon's racist history and contemporary inequities, and makes resource investments in initial efforts to address health inequities among BIPOC folks in Oregon.
The LC has been submitted to the legislature with both Rep. Salinas and Sen. Manning confirmed as Chief Sponsors. Attached is an info sheet with more background on what we're proposing the LC includes.
We’d like to ask for your help with the following:
1. Complete this endorsement survey as an individual, an organization (if applicable), or both.
2. Share this endorsement survey widely with your networks.
3. Use our constituent guide to reach out to your legislators and let them know you support this concept.
4. Sign a petition from our partner, Leslie Gregory from Right to Health, to declare racism a crisis nationally.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.
Thank you for your consideration,
Danielle Droppers (she/her)PresidentOregon Public Health AssociationC: 661-378-2124 l danielledroppers@gmail.com
